For working Oklahoma families, a home is the primary retirement vehicle. Paying off a mortgage builds the equity that carries families through retirement. Equity that belongs to the family, not a landlord, not a hedge fund, and not a Wall Street investment firm.

Wall Street has spent the last decade systematically dismantling that path. Investment firms, many backed by foreign capital, purchase entire neighborhoods of affordable single-family homes, convert them to rentals, and price working Oklahoma families out permanently.

The American Home Act

Allow homeowners to deduct 100% of all mortgage payments, both principal and interest, on their primary residence from federal taxable income, capped at home values at or below the 75th percentile of local market value by county. This ensures working families receive the benefit, not billionaires deducting mansions.

Prohibit any entity owning more than 50 single-family homes from purchasing additional affordable single-family residential properties. Require investment firms exceeding the ownership threshold to divest over 5 years, with priority sale rights to individual owner-occupants.

Provide an additional $5,000 above-the-line deduction for first-time homebuyers in their first two years of ownership to accelerate equity accumulation, with the rebate directed toward principal payment.

Close loopholes allowing investment firms to acquire homes through shell companies or straw buyers. Offset the deduction by eliminating the preferential tax treatment institutional investors currently receive on residential properties.

Inflation and government waste

When Washington prints money to cover its own waste, your groceries cost more, your rent goes up, and your paycheck buys less. Every dollar of federal waste is a tax on your family.
